7/13/15... I have a new companion... and I love speaking Thai!!!

my cute Sister Forte
fam!!!!!!!

This week has been sooooooo crazy but so good... so many fun updates coming your way!

haha sounds like maybe it was a little more run of the mill for you guys considering that you titled it "Groundhog Day in the 509" I'm not going to lie, my heart skipped a beat when I read that in my inbox and announced mournfully to everyone that we missed Groundhog Day....... haha  We celebrate holidays hard here in Udon Thani so you can imagine the relief that was felt when we realized it was a false alarm!! But lets be honest, I know you guys and I'm sure the week was still so so good........ nothing beats a good Tri-Cities summertime

So first things first, I am still in Udorn, and I have a new companion! Her name is Sister Forte, she went to BYU Hawaii and is from Draper and is seriously THE COOLEST. She was trained by Sister Herrmann and I hope we stay here together for 100 more transfers, because she is happy, hardworking, and just so so great! We are going to see MIRACLES together.
Sis Forte hard at work...
our cute matching bikes
Which we totally already have! We got back from transfer meeting as usual, bright and early Friday morning and we had so much work before us to get balanced for the week. We didn't really have any set plans for the day yet, and before our eyes unfolded seriously so many opportunities to find and teach! We were able to go visit พ่อสอ (Pah Sah) who got baptized last week, and TEACH HIS DAUGHTER who lives with him. It was such a special lesson, and I guess since his eyes are so bad she has already been reading the Book of Mormon to him out loud for the past few weeks. YES! Nothing better than some family scripture study right?! Pray that she will have the time and the desire to keep learning and be baptized as well! Then the rest of the day, and Saturday too, we had so many miracle encounters happen where we were riding our bikes and saw an LA or RC on the side of the road and were able to teach them right there! We ended up with 17 RCLA lessons for the week and we had like 2 up until Friday. Total delightful exhaustion on Sunday night, but could not have happened without the help of the Lord!
พ่อสอ and his cutest daughter!
Sorry, I just got a little ahead of myself there though, we will rewind a few days to Wednesday our last day of the transfer and our last day with Sister Coates! It was the coolest thing.. We totally had a baptism! แม่หวาน (Mah Waan), the one who I talked about last week who we  went to get the marriage certificate for but it totally didn't work, entered the waters of baptism! Seriously it was the most wonderful thing! She has been SO scared of just every little thing (worried about keeping the commandments perfectly, worried about fitting into the baptismal outfit, worried worried worried) and as soon as she found out that Sister Coates was going to be leaving, we mentioned to her that she could get baptized on Wednesday, but it was up to her and to not feel pressure, she just put on her (white) big girl pants -I say that in the most respectful way, like her courage just increased like 100 fold is what I am trying to say- and made it all happen! She went that morning and signed her marriage certificate with her husband, and unbeknownst to us, had had her daughter make her this beautiful white lace jacket thing for her to wear and BOOM! She knew she wanted it, and it was so tender how much she wanted Sister Coates to be a part of her special day. It was another one of those moments where I just wanted to burst I was so happy, right after her brother, พ่อศรีไทย (Pah Seethai, who sidenote, likes us to call him Joseph Seethai.. he is a HOOT and we LOVE him) baptized her, I was out in the hall right after he changed and was coming back into the room, and I give him a high five and he just kinda holds my hand up there in the air with the most tender overwhelmed look in his eye and just goes "ผมมีความสุขมากวันนี้" translation: 'I am just so happy on this day.' For sure we all were!! What a perfect ending to such a great transfer. Especially since right after, we had แม่ตี๋ว (Mah Thiw) make พะแนง (Paneang Curry) Sister Coates favorite and we celebrated with the members!
GNO at แม่หวาน's babtism! It is so fun to see her cause she totally already had friends in the branch!
Joseph Seethai... this is his usual attire. How could we not just LOVE this guy?!
Then transfer meeting, it was a DREAM!! I know you guys already got to see the video, so you already know it was so good. But the more I spend time with the Johnsons, the more I love them! It was seriously such a good time, and they put their own spin on it... kind of the perfect balance of spiritual and so much fun. I think we all left rejuvenated like "We love what we do! Lets get to work!" Especially since we came back to Udorn with a DREAM TEAM. I am so excited to work with this district, everyone is just so positive and fun. Sister Olsen is companions with Sister McKnight now one of the Sisters from my group in the MTC and she is the best best best.
PRES JOHNSON!
Udorn Sistas...the DREAM TEAM
The first transfer meeting with the Johnsons...the perfect balance of spiritual and so much fun
Also, HUGE BOMB THAT THEY DROPPED ON US AT TRANSFER MEETING:
Jeffrey R Holland is coming to THAILAND next month!!!!!!!!!!! Tears. I am sooo stoked.

other fun highlights that I can't let you go without:

-เล็ก (Lek), the radio DJ CAME TO CHURCH!! Do you remember him? He has learned everything and has a way solid testimony/ prays and reads everyday, he just has the most crazy work schedule. So I call him all the time to remind him about church/ follow up with him. (haha sidenote about my missionary self: I have had companions question the excessive amount of follow up calls I make... but I seriously think it is so important! hahaha like 'Sister Morgan, settle down there') But anyways, I call him on Saturday night to confirm that he will be at church, after weeks of him saying he will and then not coming, he just kind of says something to the effect of "You have called me for weeks, and every time that I don't come, you still call and you don't even get mad. If this is that important that you keep it up like this, then I have to go tomorrow for sure." I was SO happy. haha he then goes on to say how lucky he is to have met me to learn the gospel and totally way pridefully alludes to how lucky I am to know him because lots of people want to know him (I guess he really is a WAY popular DJ here.) It was one of those funny moments where someone just like knows they're awesome and makes a point to say "Hey, you know I am awesome right?" bless his heart. haha But he totally stayed true to his word and came to church! He was wearing these sunglasses and walked in like a cool guy and just listened so intently (and sang the hymns too!) At the end... it was the most beautiful thing, HE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. And the word he used to describe sacrament meeting was "เรียบง่าย" which means "simple". I love that that is what he got, someone who's life has been so centered on status and eccentricity was touched by the simplicity of the gospel. He is going to be baptized either this week or next! Pray that he remembers these feelings and makes church a priority every Sunday.

-ออง (Ong) our house guard got the Priesthood yesterday!

-there is totally a USTA Junior Tourney going on at these courts here and every time I bike by I catch a little action. My own little Wimbledon...... hehe (really though, I am mourning Fed's loss too mom :/)

-แม่ตี๋ว's (Mah Thiw's) husband passed away suddenly this past week. Definitely not a "fun highlight" but please pray for her and her daughter right now. They are the most amazing members and I know even though they aren't showing it (it is way bizarre, Thai people are not very outwardly emotional about tragedies.. they almost make light of it by making jokes etc. :/) I know they are having a hard time right now and could use some prayers from all!

- Shopping in a market with total ease to get stuff to make for Sunday dinner realizing that I totally speak this language. what?!  I love speaking Thai you guys, and the gift of tongues is so real!  I love joking with the people, or it is especially fun when they totally think you don't know what they are saying and they are talking about you... and then you tell them you got all of that... HAHA! But I am perfecting my Thai cooking too... last night our curry was way good... prepare yourselves)! Plus... the girl who sold us some of the vegetables totally came to church on Sunday!
these are the faces of Udorn/ why I can never leave this place!
- I finished the Pearl of Great Price this week and it is SO cool!!. I don't think I have ever read it all the way through like that, and it is just cool to read it thinking 'all of this is info that the Lord wanted revealed or recorded in the last days... why?' I think one of my favorite things that has just been on my mind ever since I read it was in Abraham ch 3 verse 25, where they are talking about the creation of man, and the Lord says:

"And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them"

It is so simple, but I have just been thinking about the peace and overwhelming happiness that comes from obedience. As I have tried to be obedient to whatever the Lord asks me to do, I have been way happy, especially when I do it out of my love for the Lord. The tried and true Jeff Morgan favorite, 'If ye keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land', has never failed our fam, and it for sure has never failed out here on my mish.

Here is to even better, more exact obedience and in turn even better, more full joy.

The church is true people, and life is good in the Promised Land (aka UDORN THANI!)

all of my love, Sister Morgan

ps You better all represent at the VS-15 Talent Show without me there to hold it all together... HAHAHA jk

my new district...

7/5/15... This week was seriously so awesome...

BAPTISM of พ่อสอ!!
family!

To start off, I just have to say... I will forever have fun, fond memories of Loretta and will never forget her sweet example and friendship towards our family. Love you guys, Mitzels/ friends and fam!

I just finished the Doctrine and Covenants this week and I love how some of the final sections really remind us of Heavenly Father's perfect plan and perfect love. One of my faves, Section 133 verse 45 the Lord reveals:

"For since the beginning of the world have not men heard nor perceived by the ear, neither hath any eye seen, O God, besides thee, how great things thou hast prepared for him that waiteth for Thee"

So good.. It gives us peace when we see loved ones go, that they are in His rest, undoubtedly heirs of all that He has, and gives us motivation to "wait" for Him, to serve Him, to love Him, till we too meet Him someday. His plan is oh so generous, and oh so perfect!

Anyways, you guys, this week was seriously so awesome. It was literally so full of this and that and I don't even know how I am going to include it all, but I will do my best! here goes......

So I know you are probably wondering, and the answer is Yes, we LOVE the Johnsons! We had our little meet and greet with them and it was so special. We were all sitting in our chairs, and as soon as they walked in we started singing "Called to Serve" (at a normal pace, not a traditional TBM pace that you have maybe seen in the videos haha!) and the Spirit just filled the room. As they spoke to us, it was exactly that confirmation that President Eyring spoke of in one of his Conference talks about how those feelings of love and adoration that we feel for the Prophet are totally a gift from Heavenly Father to sustain His chosen servant...yeah I felt those 10 fold for both of them, and I am so excited to work under their guidance and direction. No, I didn't do the robot or anything, but I did give the closing prayer, so I just took the opportunity right after to go for the tried and true classic handshake with some casual conversation..... haha!

Seriously, the best part though. So on the way there, we stop at a gas station, and I am like 'ok I way have to use the bathroom.' So I am walking at kind of a swift pace with Sister Olsen and Sister Coates behind me. I notice this little "Safety First" sign on the ledge in front of the women's restroom, thinking it is just like some campaign for a safer Thailand or something and keep walking. Well I turn the corner, and suddenly I am like sinking into this quicksand substance........Totally walked into freshly poured concrete! HAHA like what?! why was it not blocked off?! I recover from the situation, wash my shoes off successfully, etc and we make it to the meet and greet. So President Johnson gets up after their little "Meet Us" slideshow, to address us and he totally pulls out caution tape and starts his talk on obedience with a story of a coworker of his going past caution tape (aka "Safety First" sign...) and winding up stuck in this glue (aka concrete...) and how we get stuck when we go past the rules etc. HAHA we were all dying. my life....

you guys I am seriously retarded sometimes.... HA
But yeah, I think next I just have to go to the story of พ่อสอ (Pah Sah) the tuktuk driver and his BAPTISM! So we go out to the boonies to teach him one last time and to review the baptismal questions. We teach the Plan of Salvation and get going on the bap questions, and we get to question 4 about crimes etc and I ask him if he has ever killed someone and he is totally like "Yes!" Sister Coates and I just look at each other like " there is NO WAY this guy has killed someone.." He is definitely kind of old and hard to understand, so we ask some kind of probing questions and it still stood that he had killed someone. Finally, after I don't know how long, it was understood that he used to do มวยไทย (thai fighting) and was like really good.. I guess it was just some pride for his past successful fighting career like "dang right I have killed someone in the ring!" HAHA Suddenly we were all picturing him in like a Nacho Libre outfit... just so relieved that he is good to go. HA
พอ่สอ (Pah Sah) the KILLER
So fast forward a few days to Sunday. He is there bright and early wearing a collared shirt and everything! Like 10 minutes before the third hour is going to end, we get him out of Priesthood to go change, go downstairs... and Sister Coates is like "SISTERS.... WE DID NOT TURN ON THE WATER!!" The font was completely empty, we had totally spaced it. So we turn on the faucets, say a quick prayer, and go search for buckets. Lucky for us, every stall in the bathroom has a bum sprayer, so we get this total system going of filling the garbage cans, passing them, dumping them... us, the Elders, แม่s (Mahs), and YW.  I kid you not, we filled the font in 15 minutes (with the brownest water ever... curse the Thailand plumbing system), a serious manifestation of the Lord's help and hand right before our very eyes...AHH!! It was such a special baptism, he bore the sweetest testimony, and is just going to be a way solid member!
fillin' that FONT!!!!!!!!
this doesn't even capture the color!!
Sunday was seriously the most magical day ever... I just sat there in his baptism as we sang "Love at Home" while he was changing his clothes, and I was watching the dad of this little family that the Elder's are teaching right now, hold and look at his little girl while he sang the song... It was like I could just hear what he was thinking, like "yes, I have finally found it, I have found the thing that is going to make this little family of mine happy forever." My heart just kind of wanted to burst with happiness. This gospel, making covenants with Heavenly Father, having love at home, are really the happiest things this world has to offer and it is so special to feel it in your own life, and see it in the lives of others. OMG
สองนีว! (two fingers!)
Other parts that made this week the BEST:

-Reviewing the baptismal q's with แม่หวาน, the sister of one of the CUTEST old members here, realizing that she totally didn't have a marriage certificate... it is Saturday. Her baptism was supposed to be yesterday, and realizing that the gov office to get it would be open for 15 more minutes... in that moment we are like "LETS GO RIGHT NOW!" we say a closing prayer right away, start following in our little bike brigade, peddling as fast as we can to get there before it closes! hahaha of course like everything possible happened to slow us down, cars pulling out in front of us, barely getting through the rail road tracks before traffic was stopped for a train, but we made it!! Turns out her husband needed to be there too, so they are going to get it done today, and she is going to either be baptized tomorrow or next Sunday... haha crazy times
there comes แม่หวาน (Mah Waan) in her tuktuk to get that marriage certificate!
-Making แกงเขียวหวาน (green curry) with แม่ตี๋ว and taking it to go visit an RCLA family here, this grandma and grandpa and their granddaughter. We have done it a few times (green curry is the granddaughters fave!) and they are seriously the cutest family... We had a way good lesson on the Priesthood, really wanting Brother อุดมศัก (UdomSak) to see his duty to lead his family in the gospel. They totally came to church on Sunday... and HE BORE HIS TESTIMONY.
cooking with our แม่! her green curry is the BEST
-ต้อม (Thom!), one of the doctors from the hospital we took Bell to at the beginning of the transfer, who I totally taught like all 5 lessons to while we were waiting for two hours (haha! he was seriously so cool!) totally came to church!

-Brother ออง (Ong, the guard at our house) came to church EARLY and was wearing a white shirt! He is seriously so so late every week, this was a serious miracle.

-Sister Tilley, a Sister who served here coming to visit with her fam. It is so so fun to talk to Americans sometimes! They were all so nice.
Sister Tilley! (too many cameras... literally not one shot where we are all looking at the same one. oops!)
She is fabulous though!!
-Speaking of AMERICA... the Fourth of July was definitely celebrated, hard!! You best believe we wore our red, white and blue... and at the request of Sister Olsen and Sister Coates, we had a S'MORES roasting party! haha not my thing, but I definitely had some American Kettlecorn. We love AMERICA (and of course Thailand)
at the AMERICAN grocery store here getting our 4th of July goods
-having all of the members say "I AM A MORMON" in English one by one at Book of Mormon. Seriously the video footage is SO priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So yeah, life is good, we are loving life! Transfers are Thursday and Sister Coates is moving, and Sister Olsen and I are both staying. I don't think we will be companions anymore, but you never know!

Come what may and love it :)

xoxo Sister Morgan

6/28/15... Happy Fourth of July this week to the Land of Liberty from the LAND OF SMILES

My girls, หยก (Yoke) and ฝ้าย (Faay)
hey hey hey!

Ok. People what a seriously nuts week you had.............. so many fun updates! And I am so glad Ty is up in the motherland for the weekend. I can just picture all of the summer things you are doing, and it makes me think about how much I sure do love you guys! I hope you are sitting in the back right now on those outdoor couches, drinking drinks with our good ice or something like that................ bliss

As for me, this week was so so good! We had so many crazy twists and turns, but our first week as a tri-panionship was a such a soild success. I am ever more and more grateful for round 2 with Sister Coates, and Sister Olsen is just as good as they come! I think the greatest thing I learn from both of them is the beauty of laughter and just being SO positive. They are so so good! I would say though, our biggest challenge right now is trying to be so exactly obedient to our new "no singing (not just listening to) anything but Hymns" rule.... we are doing our best, but it is hard when all three of us know every word to every Taylor Swift song she has ever written and they are so applicable to every life situation (yes people, even mission life!)... HELP!

Other challenge.. we all really love to shop. And we found ourselves in a really cool Asian dress thrift shop on P Day.... and collectively we may have bought 12 dresses. WE WEAR YOUR GRAND[MA]'S CLOTHES........ WE LOOK INCREDIBLE. kidding I wont even go there, even though I don't think it is breaking the rule if I am just typing lyrics?

So anyways, craziest thing this week. Remember how I told you I went to a funeral a few weeks ago? It was of this greatest, most faithful RC who suddenly got cancer. Well, it turned out to be this kind of blessing in disguise, because it totally brought their 2 kids who are like adults and have never really been very receptive to the gospel, to wanting to learn with the missionaries. Sister Coates and Sister Olsen taught and baptized their son earlier this transfer เพ็ด (Ped) and he is totally just doing SO amazing. Things have a little slower for the daughter จอย (Joy), who, side note, is so incredibly pregnant right now it is a little insane (In the words of Tyler which will never ever be repeated to describe a female after this occasion, she is "massive" HAHA) She was originally going to be baptized on the same day as her brother, but her husband was not really wanting it, so the Sisters just felt like they should back off a little bit. Long story short, last week Sister Coates felt like she should call her again after not really talking with her, and she said something like, "Sister, I had a dream about my dad at the church and you were there too, and I know I need to be baptized!" So seriously way cool, we have been teaching her again and she has just been absorbing everything like a sponge, like feasting on the scriptures, everything.
some of the crew out at แม่ อว้น's... จอย (Joy) front and center, and of course, there is พ่อ สอ (Pah Sah) just doing his thing there. LOVE THESE PEOPLE
So we go out there-- they live in the serious boonies-- and take the DL and his companion, because she is all ready to be interviewed for her baptism on Sunday. Elder Visser does his first baptismal interview behind an outhouse beneath a mango tree (No, I am not quoting Jack Johnson lyrics... I am more consecrated than that) and she passes and everything is all set. They come back over and he is filling out the baptismal record, and suddenly it is realized that wait... they don't actually have a marriage certificate. NO! (Lots of people in Thailand have like a marriage ceremony, love each other and consider each other husband and wife, but don't make it legal, which is totally a requirement for baptism!) So we are trying to weigh our options... and so classic at a time like this, the Mom เเม่ อว้น (Oo-an.. which means 'Fat' YIKES) goes "It's fine, พ่อ and I didn't have one either!" We are just sitting there like "oh dear goodness, this is just getting better and better.." haha I have come to know that for sure, The church is true all over the world, but sometimes things are just a little crazy outside of the Kennewick East Stake bubble I have lived in my whole life!

So, she didn't end up getting baptized this Sunday, but we all have a really good feeling about how we are going to approach this. I think in the end this could be so great to really help her have a vision for this new little family she is going to have. Even if her husband wants nothing to do with the gospel, I quote one of my FAVORITE documents of all time,

"Children are entitled to birth within the bonds or matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity."

they can still have a home filled with love, and parents who are faithful to each other. Pray for her! And her husband!

The silver lining to the story though... it is a bit of a trek to get out to their house, and we have this one tuk tuk driver that takes us from the highway, out to their "house" every time. He totally stays for the entire lesson so he can take us back too, and he is the most adorable tiny old man with this set of perfect dentures. We are going back from the lesson the other day, and we are talking to him, and he is like "Yeah, I want to be baptized too!" Long story short, best scene ever on Sunday, the whole crew showing up with พ่อ สอ (Pah Sah) the tuk tuk driver in tow as well. He seriously has such awesome faith, has quit smoking, wore this all white outfit to church on Sunday for some reason, and has a date to be baptized next Sunday! Yay for unexpected miracles.
พ่อ สอ (Pah Sah) the vision in white, showing up at church!
That term, unexpected miracles is kind of funny. We expect miracles because we know, by so many scripture references, that God is a God of miracles and will never cease to be, but no matter how many miracles I witness on my mission, I never cease to be amazed. Cease to feel like, oh, that was so unexpected/ amazing/ grand/ humbling/ wonderful. It is the most special thing to be able to expect the unexpected with our Heavenly Father because we know who He is, and we know who we are to Him. I love that I have come to know that so clearly and that I get to share that EVERY day!

Other unexpected, yet totally expected miracles of the week/ must know tid bits:

- quick last minute prompting to run to เบล's (Bell's) house and grab her before the baptism yesterday. She was so happy to see a baptism and now feels good about her date for NEXT SUNDAY. Oh my goodness people, this is the girl who smoked in the bathroom of the church in the middle of our first lesson. She is so awesome, and we have a plan all in place for her last cigarette this week. I was so humbled by her understanding of making a covenant with Heavenly Father after seeing the baptism yesterday. Please please pray for her to have the courage to continue to change, not long for old habits, and make this HUGE step!
เบล (Bell) at church! Sis Coates was totally so inspired and was like "hey we have this skirt and top you can wear!" Bell just LIT up and felt so special, and I think it helped her to feel like she fit in even more. Also pictured, one of my Asian thrift shop finds.......... daisys for daysss fun huh?
- the most magical dinner at Sister Rose's house, the cutest RM from the Philippines who is just such a light to be around. She is here providing for her family- 12 brothers and sisters- and it was just a special, fun time to be together with her!

-หยก (Yoke)  and ฝ้าย (Faay), the two little girls who are 9 and 10 years old and ALWAYS at the church, came to church on Sunday for the first time yesterday. They sat on either side of me and were so reverent. ฝ้าย totally sang "I am a Child of God" quietly to herself, and in the middle หยก totally whispers to me "Sister, yesterday my mom didn't have any customers, and I prayed that she would, and then she had customers. Heavenly Father answered my prayer!" They are perfect, and they for some reason are obsessed with me, which I of course, love. They have a baptismal date for the first Sunday of September and are so precious in how much they love what we teach them. We did have to remind them, "yes we are so glad that you have our phone number, but we can't text you back if it is not about church, and how about we just call you instead of you call us" hahaha 7 missed calls and 6 texts in one night, whoops....

yep, translation, a little something like "hey sister, whats up?" "sister what are you doing right now?" "sister why aren't you answering me?" hahaha ...you have to love 10 year olds with phones! Especially when they are going to be the Relief Society president someday... mark my words people
- last week with President and Sister Senior, we are having a "meet and greet" with Pres and Sister Johnson this Thursday! Obviously I have been practicing something very impressive to hit them with... like maybe moonwalk or roboto or poetry or something. dont worry it will be cool... ha On a serious note, I am way excited to meet them and know they are going to be awesome! I am so excited for that confirming feeling when we see them like, "Yes, this is who the Lord has called!" Sort of like when President Monson came after President Hinckley type of thing here

- last thing for your back pocket, in Thailand it is totally ok to say "Sorry Sister, the reason I wasn't at church today was because I am having diarrhea. By the way are you still having diarrhea from being in the hospital?" haha WHAT? never ok. never never!

Haha seriously though, way good week you guys, but this is all I've got!

I hope you know just how much I love you and am thankful forev for your support....... I feel it everyday!

XOXO Sister Morgan

ps We've got some serious America fever going on right now, and are going to be hunting down some flag shirts or something today..... where is Old Navy when you need it?

haha Happy Fourth of July this week to the Land of Liberty from the LAND OF SMILES

fun activity at the church making ice cream... don't ask me why there are flowers and leaves in it. Thai people really don't get the concept of "dessert" the way we do... But there is ชมพู (Shampoo!) totally blending something! LOVE seeing Recent Converts join in and have so much fun with being a member
A cute one of Olsie Ols peeling flowers for the ice cream... yummy. hahaha I love this country!

So cool, do you remember this girl?! ขวัญ (Kwaan) one of my RCs from Bangnaa! She is originally from Udorn and has been home visiting this month. So awesome to see how faithful she has been in coming to church alone every week (her dad drops her off) and now seeing her be the total fellowshipper/ just such a ROCKSTAR! love her so much!
